Less than a week until Italy....

24-03-12  Library!

Wokeup and talked to momma then waited for Ginna to get ready to go to the library.  I got about 800 words done out of 1700 so I was pleased!  I've been hanging out all afternoon, not in much of a mood to go out or anything.

25-03-12  Killarney!

I went to church at 9 am then got in a cab and went to the bus station for a 10:35 bus to meet up with Christine and her cute little family.  Christine is Mrs. Murphy's daughter.  Mrs. Murphy is my Irish dance teacher from New Jersey and her daughter lives in Cork.  She is married to a cute Irish guy and they have the cutest Irish babies named Aidan and Brenna.  So sweet too!

We had lunch at Murphy's Pub (ironic I know) and I had Shepard's Pie which was delicious!  Then Christine and I went to Penney's to shop!  It was so nice to see her and her husband Danny.  Then we went to Ross Castle.  The sun felt so warm and the weather was fabulous!

Christine brought me a bunch of books and a bunch of goodies!  Thin mints, velveeta, goldfish, peeps, and popcorn!  So nice! Boarding the bus to head back to Limerick right now.  So sleepy so a nap is in my near future!

26-03-12  Case of the Monday's

Today I had class and then went to the bank to see if they've made any progress with my money.  They haven't....The weather is amazing today I just wish I was in a better mood to enjoy it fully.  I went to all of my classes then went up onto the hill about the track and pitch to enjoy the rest of the sunshine with Bryan, Matt, and Lauren.

27-03-12

Dance today.. it was alright.  Then criminal procedure then went into town with Lauren.  We went to River Island and I got the cutest dress! Then to Penney's  I got a bunch of stuff but didn't spend alot of money which is good...considering I don't much. HA!  I went to the bank to when I got back to see if the money was back in my account or if the wire transfer my mom sent went through... neither had, hoping for tomorrow!

28-03-12  ONE MORE DAY

So I have less than 24 hours to be ready to leave for Italy.  I have yet to pack.  So much to get done before I leave... and still no sign of money. WOMP

The week that changed my attitude on vulnerablility...

18-03-12  MEGHAN's BIRTHDAY!

My big sister turned 22 today!  I'm sure she had an awesome day.  I know her awesome boyfriend got her a MK bag.  Nice guy if you ask me.  I went into town to the milk market and got a Moody-Cow milkshake, so good!  Then went to the International Band Championships, it was pretty much a parade made up of bands but I liked it because there were numerous sets of pipes and drums!

Ginna and I then did some window shopping then grabbed lunch at O'Connor's Pub.  I had the most amazing sandwich! It was a hot chicken baguette with roasted peppers.  I should have taken a picture it looked and tasted that good!  Then we headed back to Uni and I took a little nap and hungout for the rest of the afternoon.

19-03-12  Bank Holiday...score!

Today we had off for the bank holiday (St. Patrick's Day).  I slept in then skyped my mom then went to the gym with Amanda.  I felt terrible after all I drank this past weekend... so I ran and ran until I felt a little better.  I did some laundry and showered and attempted some school work afterwards.   I have so much to get done in the next two weeks before I leave for Italy!

20-03-12

I had dance class today... It was alright.  Then my criminal procedure's class was cancelled.  I went to the grocery store with Lauren then had one more class.  I went to The Stables with Lauren, Marraine, and Ginna for two pints, well Lauren and I had two anyway.

21-03-12

I had such a goodnight sleep so I'm feeling great today minus not feeling well.  I hung out with Amanda while she packed for Paris.  Sad that I won't see her until she meets us in Italy next Saturday.  I then watched J.Edgar finally!

22-03-12  Day from HELL

I went to the ATM around 3:40pm about 20 minutes before class.  I figured that was the perfect amount of time to get money and head to class. Boy was I wrong.  I wasn't able to take any money out of the ATM so I went inside to ask what was going on and it turns out that this girl is a victim of fraud.  2000 euro just taken from my account!  You can bet that I was a crying mess and didn't make it to class.  So I had a total of 5 euro to my name, and called my mom to break the bad news to her.  She told me to go have a beer and calm down, so I did.. Then I had a total of 2 euro to my name.  I went to my other class then went home to call the bank and figure out exactly what needed to be done now.  Ginna wanted to go to the movies to see The Hunger Games so she nicely paid for my ticket, we got them for the 8 o'clock showing.  Well the friggin projector broke!  So we went into the theater that was showing it at 9 o'clock.  The movie started and I was pumped although we were sitting across the movie theater from eachother because those were the only seats we could find.  Then suddenly the screen went black and they kicked out everyone who didn't have a ticket for the 9 o'clock show...  They sent us back to the theater with the broken projector and said that it would be fixed by 11pm.... HELL NO was I waiting that long.  So Ginna and I waited a few minutes then snuck back to the other theater and only missed about 2 minutes of the movie!  I definitely liked the book WAY better than the movie but I feel like that happens with all of books that are turned to movies.

23-03-12  Fridayyyy

URGH I don't know why but I always sleep past my alarm on Friday's.  By the time I got up I had about 10 minutes to get ready and get to class.  I then took my Friday early morning nap before an hour of zumba and an hour of dance class.  I wish the zumba was on video because there is nothing funnier than Irish dancers attempting to move our arms and bodies at the same time with our legs...  We just don't have the coordination for that.  But we started learning the North Kerry St. Patrick's Day  it is so much looser and less serious than the Traditional St. Patrick's Day.  I watched 50/50 with Ginna then skyped my dad before climbing into bed.  Goodnight!

St. Patrick's Day is on it's way!

12-03-12 lala I hate Mondays lala

I had such a hard time getting up this morning. I had Irish Folklore at 9am and we had a guest speaker... His name is Eddie Lenihan and he is one interesting character to say the least.  This man fully believes in fairy's, fairy trees, the banshee, hoaxes, and pishoguery (sounds like pis-eog and it is magic and witchcraft) yes you did read that correctly.  Now this man informed our class that he goes to the pub every night and has three pints of Guinness EVERY NIGHT and writes about fairylore.  That's what he likes to call it.   That crazy looking guy to the right? that's him. Yes he has a wife and a daughter.  He was a bit frightening and showed way to much enthusiasm and believes all of his stories.

After class I went into town to drop my phone off... again.  I had two more classes after that and made dinner and skyped home.  Brianna had her first 3 hours for her permit today. I can only imagine that she did great! Moira starts hers on Wednesday.  Tonight Ginna, Marraine, and myself went to Nancy Blake's.  It's a 23 and over bar but the bouncer let us in... probably our good American looks.  We were so pumped though!  We had a few very expensive pints and hungout.

13-03-12

Today was a good day!  I got up and had a bowl of strawberry and granola cereal then went to dance class then criminal procedure.  I came back and had a quick lunch before sociology.  I then went to town to pick up my phone and was handed a brand new one!  So hopefully I have better luck with this one.  I went to this store called New Look and got a green shirt for this weekend as well as two very cute pairs of shoes (my weakness!)

14-03-12  Clean house

Only had one class today.  Then blogged for a bit before going into the kitchen and scrubbing the stove top and counters.  It grosses me out that people can live that way.  Everything was either sticky or greasy yuck.  But it is spotless now minus the dishes in the sink that I refuse to do.  I then took a little snooze before going to the gym.  I had a pretty good workout except for now my foot is killing me.  Afterwards I walked to Lidl with Amanda to get a few things and I'm staying in tonight to relax and have some quiet time.

15-03-12 Pre-St. Patrick's Day

Tonight was amazing.  My most epic night in  Limerick.  The night started out in my kitchen with Lauren, Amanda, Ginna, and myself.  We sat around and drank for a while.  We were supposed to go to Hurler's but ended up not.  We all had on green because Hurlers was having a Green Party but we ended up going to The Stables instead and looked like such dweebs.  It was pretty dead minus all of the fourth year teaching students because they just handed in their Fourth Year Projects.  Michael was there (remember him? the boy I went to the movies with)  we talked for a while with him and his friends.  Amanda decided at one point to blindside me and tackle me while I was in the middle of having a conversation and laid my flat out on my back and landed on top of me.  I'm surprised we weren't kicked out...  We were the girls EVERYONE was staring at. Then we left Stables to all come back to my house.  I decided to give my sister a ring and it was the most expensive call yet haha.  I told her to go on skype.  When Michael and I got back to my house we skyped her and he was talking to her in Irish, she loved it.
Then I guess we decided to go to the lodge... We trekked through the pitch (field) which would explain the mud all over my flats and up to my knee on my tights.. dreadful!  We got to the Lodge a half hour before closing and yes I paid 7 euro to get into the crappiest club ever.  and this girl decided it would be okay to take tequila shots.  The rest of the night is history.

16-03-12

Just to clarify I did make it home in one piece AND made it to class the following morning at 9am.  The champ is here.  I sat through class then skyped my mom and then a nap.  My friends Lisa and Morgan came over for a bit to catch up and I made the executive decision for myself to skip dance because I don't think Órfhlaith (Orla) my dance teacher would be to pleased with me for throwing up all over the floor.  One jump and I think that's probably what would have happened.  So I took it easy and then made tomatoes, pasta, and cheese for dinner.  Momma's signature lent dinner.  Hers is still better!

17-03-12  St. Patrick's Day in DUBLIN

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  At 7am we were on a bus headed to Dublin and by 7:30-8 am we were cracking open our first drinks for the day.  When we got to Dublin we went to check out Temple Bar.  At 930 am that is.  It was packed!  The streets were so lively and there was so much green!  We got in a good spot for the parade right up against the gate!  I was so disappointed in it, it was more of a Halloween parade than a St. Patrick's Day parade. There was only one set of pipes and drums.

When the parade was over we started a pub crawl starting at Temple Bar and hitting 7 or 8 others.  We had an absolute blast!  We did stop for lunch at a fake Chipotle but it was still good! It was called Boojum.  I bought a scarf for 3 euro that says Happy St. Patrick's Day Ireland.  We had to be back on the bus by 9 to leave and got back to Limerick around 11:30 but everyone bailed on me to go out!  I was so mad.  I called Meghan like 3 times while I was in Dublin so she could hear the music.

Happy St. Patrick's Day from ME!

Quiet week and perfectly quiet weekend

07-03-12

Today was pretty quiet.  I got more word about my cousin being sick.  Poor little guy.  I skyped my friend Steve in Boston for a while today it was good to catch up!  I'm just about done with my paper so I went to Stable with Amanda for a pint, much needed.

08-03-12

Not feeling so good about handing my paper in tomorrow.  I had a really hard time sleeping last night for some reason.  I talked to my roommates from home about housing, hopefully that process goes smoothly.

09-03-12 Happy Birthday to one of the greatest woman I've ever known

Happy Birthday to Grammy Pictroski.  Mom seemed like she was having an off day, I felt bad.  I went to hand my paper in before dance class and the office stupidly was closed from 12-2... I have dance class at 2 and the paper had to be handed in by 3.. So I left dance around 240 and sprinted to hand the paper in on time.  Then I took a trip into town by myself for a mini shopping spree.  I think I deserved it.  When I got back I made pizza for dinner because it's Friday, showered, and took a little relaxing nap.  Afterwards I skyped my parents, Meghan, and Corey and my parents told Meghan that they were buying her a ticket to Ireland for her graduation present.  She cried! I'm so excited for her to get here!

10-03-12  Kinsale!

So Marraine, Bryan, and myself left for Kinsale at 845 this morning.  Kinsale is beautiful!  The harbor was amazing, when we got there it was low tide so all of the boats were sitting on the ground with no water.  We took a 2 mile walk on this trail with awesome scenery to Charles Fort.  It was so nice yet a bit eery.  I felt like I was in a game of Call of Duty.  We then hopped up on to this wall that had about 5 or 6 feet of grass on it so we laid down and listened to the water hitting the shore line.  Definitely reminded me of home.  When it started to get dark we decided to hop down and start our hike back.  I forgot to mention on our walk to the fort we encountered a cat fight and we watched them hissing at eachother for a solid 10 minutes and laughed.  An Irish man walking past with his fresh produce and cane and said "The local toms giving you a show"  and we laughed even harder.  We went to a pub to watch the Ireland v. Scotland 6 Nations Rugby match.  Ireland won of course :)  For dinner we went to another pub.  It was called Ned Kelly's the food was alright but the atmosphere was fun.  After dinner we went back to our B&B for a quick nap (Joy's Accommodations).  When we woke up we went back to Ned Kelly's for a few pints and live music. It was alot of fun.  Bryan and I were the ones drinking, Marraine had a sore throat so Bryan and I were singing away and then Dont Stop Believin' came on and we ran to the stage and were singing our heads off like crazy Americans.  Then Shout came on and we tried to get Marraine up and dancing but she wasn't having it.  We just made ourselves look like goofballs but that's fine with me! Afterwards we went to the chipper for chips  (fries)  and we met this guy named Colm who actually goes to school with us! We talked to him for a bit then headed back to the B&B for some sleep.

11-03-12 Never travel on Sunday

Never really understood that Irish saying..... We got up and ventured out to walk around Kinsale some more.  Bryan caught the 1030 bus because he had work to get done before tomorrow.  Marraine and I waited for the 130 bus so we took a long walk.  We walked up a steep hill to get a better view of the harbor and just ended up getting a workout for our legs and butts.  There were to many houses and trees in the way.  Afterwards we went to the little "city centre" to look at the shops but alot of them were closed because it is Sunday.  So we did some window shopping! Probably better that way.  We had tea and pancakes for breakfast at a cute little place and then got on the bus to Cork!  When we arrived in Cork we had to catch a different bus to Limerick,  we literally pulled into the terminal and our bus was pulling out.  You bet we ran after it!  I was NOT waiting another 2 hours for the next bus.  When we got back to Limerick we went to Dunnes (grocery store) for a few things and had taco night.  Then had a movie night and watched A Beautiful Mind.

They wait until low tide to paint the boats!

RAG week

According to Urban Dictionary RAG week is- the RAG stands for 'Raising And Giving,' 'Raise A Grand,' or general funness depending on who you ask. Whatever it is, it is theoretically supposed to be about students raising money for charity in various creative ways, while having fun at the same time. Increasingly, however, it is simply a week-long orgy of alcohol.

If you actually read all of that God Bless You!
So my schedule for the week went a little like this ( from what I remember)

27-02-12 RAG week begins!

So RAG (Charity) week has officially begun. I stopped at Stables inbetween class ( I had an hour) to check out the fun that everyone was having and to grab a pint before class.  Yes I said it, people drink inbetweenclasses here.  They had trampolines, bucking bronco riding, sumosuits, and those gladiator podium things all in the courtyard.  Nothing I would ever suggest for drunk people to do.  While there for an hour I saw two boys carried out for fighting on the gladiator podiums, and one girl fell off of the trampoline.  Luckily she looked as if she had more than enough to drink so she didn't feel it when her body hit the pavement.

Everyone came to my house before we went to the UVparty.  We were all drinking and having a good time when these 2 guys rang my doorbell and said they were friends with our friend Colm.  They were a bit creepy I thought, and it turned out that Colm didn't even know them. So I kicked them out after they informed me that I had a really nice cellphone and a really nice camera.  The Paint Party was overall a lot of fun.  I was covered in the stuff!

28-02-12  Alarm Clock what?

Woke up 15 minutes before class....bad news!  and it takes about 15 minutes to walk to class at the World Academy of Music and Dance, sounds official I know.  So I made it to dance and I was only 3 minutes late, I guess brushing my teeth and running out the door was a good thing.  I had two more classes after that and then I took a 2 hour much needed nap.  I made dinner then went to Stables with Ginna for a pint then went to Adrian's house to watch a movie.  He's a really nice guy I just don't want to give him the wrong impression.

29-02-12  Leap Day!!!!!

HAPPY LEAP DAY! They day I have been waiting for because of unrealistic love stories.  But it was a good day anyway! Marraine turned 5..well 20 but it was her 5th time actually celebrating on the day. We had a party at her house and I made her a cake.  We had a good time until I had to play the role of mom and put not 1 but 3 girls to bed including the birthday girl! But when all was said and done Ginna and I went to Molly Maloneys where we danced the night away and did our thing!  I inappropriately was kissing a boy when Adrian saw me and I guess I "upset" him.  Whatev I felt bad for about 5 seconds.  When Ginna and I got back we went to Kilmurry Beach for an illegal bonfire and watched some late night swimmers in the Shannon River.  Not the brightest idea I've ever heard of.  I didn't roll into bed until 430am but the night was SO worth it.  Oh and early in the afternoon I took my first test of the semester in Dance and Music.

01-03-12  Pause the Time

Depression is setting in.... I cannot believe it's already March.  I'm excited for all that I have coming up though.  I went to classes today, wrote a paper, then went to Amanda's to drink for a bit before going to The Stables because we bought tickets to see Bressie!!  But we waited over an hour to see him and decided to leave,  he didn't show until 11 and he was supposed to be on at 930!   We went to the Lodge instead which was pretty friggin miserable if you ask me.  There's always that one place that you cannot go to when you're sober, The Lodge is it!  It's only enjoyable when you are heavily intoxicated, I had some girl step on my foot with her heel, that will leave a nice bruise.  But I did have fun with Marraine, Ginna, Sean and Seamus.  I then had to bring my roommate Peter home, once again didn't make it to bed until 4:30am.

02-03-12 I thought this whole week has been a weekend?

Wokeup and handed in my paper then went to Dance class where I started Garden of Daisies! I'm excited to take these steps home with me.  Then I came back home showered, and fell askeep for a solid 3 hours. I had pizza for dinner with Ginna, Marraine, and Bryan because it's a Friday in Lent! Then skyped my momma and sisters for a bit before going to the put to get a drink with a decent size crowd.  It was Marraine, Ginna, Amanda, Lauren, Kinga, Dayton, and Adrian (He doesn't hate me anymore).  Sclub7 came on and I sand my heart out thinking of my sister and Saturday mornings at 11 on ABCfamily.

03-03-12 Into the West

Woke up at 7 to head to Clare! I had a good time overall. We got to The Falls Hotel in Ennistymon where we had breakfast (scones and tea) then had dance lessons taught by Mary Clancy. We did a 2 hand reel and a group dance which was alot of fun.  Then we went to Lahinch where we got to see the beach!  I was so happy and the weather was amazing!  We then walked around the town for a bit where I got an American coffee and it tasted perfect.  Afterwards we went back to the hotel for lunch.  We had soup and sandwiches then went on a tour of The Burren (again) and The Aillwee Caves.  I honestly could have done without the caves.  After that we went back to the hotel for dinner. I had delicious chicken, vegetables, and mashed potatoes.  By far best meal since I've been here.  Then we headed home and I talked to my family and texted Christine Murphy about dance and other assorted things.

04-03-12 Trip planning

Woke up and went to church by myself.  Then spent the entire afternoon with Amanda figuring out hostels for Italy.  Ginna just sat around and didn't say much about it.  Everything is officially booked except for Verona which Ginna and I have to do.  All we have left is to figure out transportation between the cities.  Then, what attractions we want to see.  I talked to my mom and found out my cousin is sick and in the hospital so that put a damper on things.  I needed some fresh air so Amanda and I took a walk to Lidl to get a few things.  And then tomorrow is back to the grind of Monday!

Manchester (re)United

23-02-12 Home Of the Brave

Getting ready to board the plane for Manchester and be reunited with Ellen! I just had an experience that I will forever remember about my trip to Ireland.  I was with my friends all excited about heading to England for the weekend for some sight seeing.  We walked through security and headed into the Duty Free section of the airport and I saw a few US Soldiers standing around in their uniforms, I didn't think much about it just made sure to make eye contact and smile out of respect.  All of my friends were completely oblivious to them I think.  So I got a bottle of water and a snack and went to head to the lounge to wait for my flight.  When I walked through the doors to the lounge there were well over 200 US soldiers sitting around.  I wish I had gotten a picture, I was speechless, breathless, and amazed to see so many of them.  They were sitting there so calm and relaxed looking I figured they were on their way home from war.  But for some reason I got this odd feeling in my throat, I guess sort of like being choked up.  Once again my friends were oblivious and were just complaining that there weren't any seats.  I was looking for an open seat when one soldier offered his, I obviously kindly neglected he deserved it more than I did.  So I found a spot in a corner and sat down with my friends.  After about an hour my friends boarded their flight to London and I had another hour until my flight to Manchester.  I found a table and sat down to read my book.  I was sitting there for a while and then this US Soldier sat down next to me and asked me if I knew the local time.  This was either a pick-up line or a serious question, regardless I didn't mind because it started  a conversation between us for about a half hour before I had to board my plane.  Come to find out after asking "Where are you guys headed?"  All of these brave men and women would be in Afghanistan in 4 days for the next 9 months of their lives.  My heart sank but he was very open about it.  He told me his name was Cory Craig and he was from Omaha, Nebraska stationed in Fort Briggs, NC.  It made me sort of sad to know that at the age of 20 I'm doing one of the most selfish things a person could do, traveling Europe, and not worrying about anyone but myself.  And this 20 year old is doing the most selfless thing possibly, fighting for his country.  I enjoyed talking to him more or less listening to him talk about himself.  It seemed like he needed someone to listen, so I didn't mind.  It brought me back to reality and to remember the men and women who serve and protect the United States and we should all thank them for that.

Wahoo!!!!!! For the first time ever I waslked outside and climbed a staircase to get on the plane like they do in the movies. I felt like the president (okay that was a joke).  It was a small plane though!

Went to Manchester FRAT Party tonight.  Not exactly what I had expected but it was fun. AND I am so happy to be with Ellen for the weekend.

24-02-12 Quiet Days in Manchester

Ellen wasn't feeling well today so we hung low all morning then walked around Manchester for alittle bit.  We made American pancakes for breakfast then took a walk.  I'm dumb and forgot that today is Friday and ate meat....woops.  Oscar (Ellen's boyfriend give or take)  made a delicious dinner.  He made chicken strips from scratch and they were amazing.  We also had potatoes with some type of seasoning.  Then we watched Bridesmaids.

25-02-12

We went to the Manchester Museum today then went to the Trafford Mall.  It was nice.  We got lunch at this place called Pizza Express and it was good but no comparison to NJ pizza.  I went to Zara and bought the cutest jeans they are a baby blue color and this great lace skirt that is an off white color.  I bought my sisters all a silly little present from TopShop but it's a surprise as to what it is!  We didn't go out again tonight other than for a drink.  Then went back to her place and went to bed early because I have an early morning tomorrow.

26-02-12 Flight CANCELLED

Sitting at the airport it's still pretty early in the morning.  My flight is at 8:40 am.  I'm ready to head back to Ireland and get some work done before RAG week, and maybe some rest to so I can try and be prepared for the upcoming week.

Well it's now 1030am and I am still in Manchester.  Bad luck strikes again! My flight was originally at 8:50 then 9:30 then 10:45 and now CANCELLED.  So I went to the desk and they were going to send me to Birmingham, England by bus for a 5:30pm flight.  From Birmingham I would go to Cork then take a bus to Limerick.  I must have looked terrified by that unexpected day of travel, they luckily found me a flight to Dublin.  So I have to wait another hour for that flight then a 3 hour bus ride to Shannon and then a bus to Limerick.  The only positive thing about the delays and cancellations is that I wasn't on the plane that was having wiring malfunctions.  Maybe I am lucky.

Finally in bed.  I made dinner when I got back at 5 then Amanda and Ginna stopped over for a bit.  We discussed Italy for a bit but I decided that I couldn't talk about it anymore because I was over traveling for the day.  I was a little annoyed because my kitchen was disgusting from my roommates all weekend.  I opened the tea pot and found mold.  So I left a not so nice letter in the kitchen.  But hopefully a goodnight sleep will have me feeling better and prepared for RAG week in the morning!
